Ambulatory Surgery Centers

The very first ambulatory surgery center was opened in 1970.  Today, there are over 3,700 centers performing over 2,400 Medicare-approved procedures.  While a majority of the centers remain independently owned, the number of multi-facility chains is growing rapidly.  Joint venture partnerships among ambulatory surgery centers, hospitals, and physician practices have also become increasingly common in today's complex healthcare marketplace.
